When I started at LexisNexis, I got knee deep in the legal weeds as a research attorney and writer. Wonderful work, but then something snuck up on the legal profession (well, more like the whole world)--social media! At first glance, I was afraid to touch social media; it was like that catfish my grandpa used to remove from my hook because all the flopping and sliminess weirded me out. I thought, "What's the value in all this kids stuff?" Come to find out, there's immense value. I've been managing LexisNexis's social media for 5 years, and all that flopping and sliminess is long in the past. Social media is an incredible tool; brand reach, audience building, lead generation, customer service, thought leadership, media monitoring--a powerful (and often underutilized) tool. From Twitter to Facebook to LinkedIn, I've got a pretty good handle on all this social media stuff. But I still have trouble taking the fish off the hook.
