What better way to celebrate this games’ long history than to learn about its’ history and other quirky facts. Here are just some Scrabble tidbits thanks to USA TODAY.
lfred Mosher Butts invented the game in 1933. Back then the game had players use the lettered squares to spell words in a crisscross pattern.
RAILING or “the feeling of the surface of a tile when your hand is in the bag” is forbidden in Scrabble play.
The Official LUB and Tournament word lists consists of a whopping 187,632 words
is one of the hardest letters to find, however it doesn’t hold the highest point value. That is held by “Q” & “Z”, which each are worth 10 points.
In 2014, was one of 5,000 other words that were added to official Scrabble Players dictionary issued by Merriam-Webster.
