Litigation isn’t the most quiet and civilized activity. Have you ever wondered what crazy things litigators have experienced? For Elise Klein, a no. 2 pencil is the lead culprit.

My most memorable negative experience as a practicing attorney was when another lawyer threw a pencil at me in a deposition.

When she isn’t dodging pencils from opposing counsel, Elise is a Partner at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP, where she is Chair of the Life, Health, Disability & ERISA department. Looking back at her 20-year career, Elise recollects:

"If I knew then what I know now] I would have been more assertive about the skills and relationships I developed over time, and would have sought recognition within my firm for my contributions, instead of allowing others to take credit for my relationships and my work."

Elise is a Contributing Author to Employee Benefits Guide. This Matthew Bender publication is available on the LexisNexis® Store.
