It was on this date in 1920 that history was made. On August 26th,1920 the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was finally ratified. This enfranchised all American women and declared that they, like men, deserve all the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
Here is a small timeline:
1848 - Group of abolitionist activists–mostly women, but some men–gathered in Seneca Falls, New York to discuss the problem of women’s rights
1869 – Group called ‘National Woman Suffrage Association” was formed.
1910 - Some states in the West began to extend the vote to women (1st time in ~ 20 years)
1920 - 19th Amendment to the Constitution ratified
