According to our customer support team, it is oftentimes reported that users would like to be able to limit their search result-set by a specific court (eg- Northern District of Illinois, IL Court of Appeals) before they run the search rather than after. An easy answer is to use Lexis Advance® pre-search filters. Below is a step-by-step set of instructions to set up pre-search filters using Lexis Advance®.
Step 1: To select a pre-search filter, select the ‘Filter’ tab (highlighted below in yellow). You will be presented with several options to better narrow your results (highlighted below in green).
Step 2: A helpful tip – There is no limit to the number of pre-search filters that can be used at any one time and they can be combined across filter types. The number of filters will be recognized in the “Filters” box; just keep in mind that the filters must be cleared when you no longer want them applied.
Step 3: Are these some of your favorite pre-search filters? If so, select the star button to save them as your favorites (highlighted below in yellow). Then you can always select these at a later time from your customized Lexis Advance® homepage (highlighted below in green).
