Permalinks, Research History, Folder Options and Live Chat are just a few of the new enhancements incorporated into Lexis Advance® that can help you increase your research productivity and efficiency.

Tip 1: Permalinks

Lexis Advance now supports permalinks to a full-text document, your search results, a Shepard’s® report, a Folder or a TOC (table of contents) source at Lexis Advance. Get a refreshed picture every time you select a Permalink you create.

What does this mean to me?

With permalinks, you can create direct links to search results, documents and more.  

That means when you re-open a link for:

  • Full-text primary law documents: You get updated Shepard’s Signal™ indicators.
  • Search results: The search is entered again and new documents are added automatically. Plus the filters you initially added are saved and re-applied.
  • Shepard’s reports: You get the latest updates to the report.
  • TOC sources: See the exact location—down to the subsections you opened or searched.
  • Folders: You view the most current Folder version.

How do I use permalinks?

  1. Find the permalink icon in the Actions pull-down menu at the top of search results or full-text documents you are viewing. (Highlighted in yellow in the screenshot below.)
  2. Select “Link to this page” (highlighted in green in the screenshot below).



  3. Next, a dialog box will appear. Simply copy the link and paste it into work product or email. Then, select “Close” to return to your results or document.



Tip 2: Research History

Research History: What does this mean to me?

The Lexis Advance Research History offers you many ways to filter and analyze your 90-day history. (And there’s no search charge to return to any search unlike WestlawNext®.)

  1. At the Lexis Advance History screen, you can filter your History by client matter, date or date range and research type, that is, you can find emails sent, TOCs viewed, documents retrieved, legal searches and more. You can even search for specific words in your History entries.



  2. Now you can also filter your Research History by where the search originated, e.g., Lexis Advance (research), LexisNexis® Verdict & Settlement Analyzer, LexisNexis® Litigation Profile Suite, Lexis Practice Advisor® or LexisNexis MedMal Navigator®.

Tip 3: Advanced Foldering

With Advanced Foldering, you can see Folder(s) sharing information up front.

Now it’s even easier to share Folder information—and keep track of who you’re sharing information with. Share Folder items faster. (Just choose the Folder item and select the Share icon at the top of the screen.)

Tip 4: Live Chat

Need information right away? Now you can get live help immediately via chat!
