Teaching Attorneys the Ins and Outs of Technology: One Lawyer’s Account via ILTA KM

In this article, Susan G. Manch recalls her previous experience as in-house counsel where she led the Learning & Development group at Bingham McCutchen. While serving in this role, she quickly realized most associates and partners had “woefully inadequate technical skills and outdated understanding of the programs available to make their processes more efficient and their work more accurate with fewer billable hours.”

Manch collaborated with the firm’s IT team to create a new approach that would appeal to busy lawyers (and paralegals and assistants). The results:

“Not only did we see lawyers’ technical confidence increase, we also saw our IT trainers’ understanding of our lawyers’ software needs expand. Our Learning & Development and IT Training teams’ effective collaboration yielded a productive outcome and pushed us all to be more creative in designing tech training that our lawyers would actually attend.”
