Need to find a specific document and in a hurry? Take a look at some ways to find the right document with fast results.
1. Focus your search up front
Working with Pre-Search Filters on Lexis Advance allows you to narrow your results from the beginning. From the red search box, select the Filter option and choose the relevant filters for your legal search.
Helpful Tip: By selecting an option or multiple options from this filter you are telling the system that you only want your results to include documents that have been tagged with the practice areas or topics you have selected. 2. Search specific sources only
The Word Wheel is a feature that will improve efficiency in research by suggesting possible “legal phrases and documents” as well as “sources,” based upon what is being entered into the search box. Use the red search box to enter a title, and the word wheel makes suggestions.
Helpful Tip: Learn more about how the Word Wheel can help you with legal research. Find out now >>
3. Better refine your results
Your search terms are highlighted and the most relevant documents are displayed first to help you spot what you need. You can use the navigation pane next to your results list to help you select relevant content types (highlighted below in green), and you can use the ‘Narrow By’ pane (highlighted below in pink) to customize your filtering options.
Helpful Tip: Within the Narrow By pane, click the X next to your selection to remove it. For more tricks and tips about Lexis Advance searching options, read this post to find out which is right for you. Read now >>
