The New Lexis Advance: How-To Use the Document & Navigation Tools in Lexis Advance

This post introduces the basics of document and navigation tools.

1. After starting your search (using the red search box), the document and navigation tools are available within the document view.

2. After accessing the document you are provided with numerous delivery options and the navigation tools (highlighted below in yellow).

3. The “Jump To” feature allows you to quickly navigate to specific sections of the document such as Sections (highlighted in yellow); Navigate (highlighted in green); or Page (highlighted in pink).

Helpful Tip: Using this tool eliminates the need to scroll through the entire document to find what you need.

Helpful Tip: As you work your way through the documents you need quickly and easily with options to return to results list, view the previous document or move to the next document.

 4. Tools available to you after highlighting a section of text are:

Copy the clip to a clipboard (highlighted in yellow);

Save the clip to a folder (highlighted in green);

Search using selected text (highlighted in purple);

Create annotations (highlighted in pink); and,

Highlight selected text (highlighted in blue).

 

Helpful Tip: Located at the top of the document, the Copy Citation feature allows you to copy the citation and paste it into a document you are working on (highlighted below in yellow.) You have the option to Copy the citation as a hyperlink as well as the ability to include parallel citations. Numerous citation formats are available.

Helpful Tip: The Shepard’s Preview Box is located in the right-hand side of the screen (highlighted below in green). This includes a preview that offers highlights of the report before you Shepardize®.

 

Helpful Tip: The ‘About this Document’ section (highlighted below in pink) contains links to other important information such as related court materials, the Legal Issue Trail, and Topic Summaries, if available.
