Marcus Reed is a beer lawyer and a “beer geek,” with a passion for craft beer that goes beyond mere consumption. Naturally, his role as a corporate lawyer led him to an interest in the business of beer.
So what does a beer lawyer do?
Mr. Reed assists brewers and other beer-entrepreneurs in bringing their companies to life with the ultimate goal of making the client’s job easier, so the brewery can focus on the most important thing, which is “making great beer,” according to a recent article In the Trenches: A beer lawyer's work takes on a touch of green published via Portland Business Journal.
But supporting breweries to make great beer isn’t where Reed’s involvement ends. While he is a dedicated professional with a passion for craft beer, this beer-focused attorney works toward sustainable means by empowering his clients to take advantage of opportunities like Oregon’s newly adopted “benefit companies,” which must consider impact to society and the environment in addition to profit.
While each brewery has a unique set of legal obstacles to overcome, requiring solutions that are tailored to each specific brewery, Mr. Reed says that he is “happy to have a part in both Portland’s craft beer renaissance and commitment to sustainability.”
